about

Narrowing was initially built around a disco track Delmer Darion had created one weekend, they recorded the song to tape, degraded it, slowed it down, bent it into a new shape and discovered a new sound from within.

Inspiration can come from the unlikeliest of places. For the duo (who take their name from Paul Thomas Anderson’s cult film Magnolia), a catalyst for the new single was Vermont-based writer and visual artist Bianca Stone’s poem “I Saw The Devil With His Needlework”.

Enlisting the help of friends in avant-pop two-piece Private Agenda (Lo Recordings, International Feel) on vocals and harmony, ‘Narrowing’ started to take shape over months of Dropbox links sent between London and Berlin.

lyrics

Carried through glowing halls,
Past last-call-bars.
The hammers are damp and old
And ancient, calling.

A whisper of ivory, a stack of smoke
Which slowly reveals the hands that never stop.
