about

Delmer Darion have painstakingly crafted together a sprawling, industrial account of the death of the devil, inspired by a line in the Wallace Stevens poem ‘Esthétique du Mal’: “the death of Satan was a tragedy for the imagination.”

‘Wildering’ was originally written as a slow ballad, the lyrics describe someone being conveyed through a surreal cityscape towards Satan. It was then recorded to tape, degraded, resampled and stiched back together again, something Delmer Darion do with all their music.

lyrics

Pall of mist, knock of rain. His fugue.
Empty streets, tongue between His teeth.
Leads the way, leads the way, narrowing.
Neon plash, full of fume, cracking.
Severed roots, grainy bloom, snow-flecked.
To the lake, curdled air, soundless.
